Normal budgeting apps aren’t cutting it

Why ScrubMoney is partnering with Plaid to bring you long-term financial tracking

It's a simple problem: most professionals don't have to deal with 11+ years of post-high school education and debt before they start making their initial target salary. People in business cruise through undergrad and sometimes two years' worth of an MBA before grabbing rungs on the corporate ladder; attorneys tough out three years of law school before taking the bar; even dentists, who have four-year doctorate degrees like physicians, get to go straight into practicing without a residency.

But doctors on average spend more than a decade in school and accumulating debt in order to practice independently.

It can be hard to visualize how certain decisions — like different costs of living, job offers, or debt payoff plans — might affect individuals in the long run. That's why we're partnering with Plaid to bring you those simple, powerful visualizations.

What you’ll get

A long-term view of your financial health, all synced in one place. Come to the ScrubMoney Plan screen to see how all your loans, different streams of income, and expected income and debt payoff processes will meld together to form your financial roadmap.

Use budgeting apps like Mint or YNAB to track day to day, week to week, and month to month money movement; use ScrubMoney to track your plans and expectations across years and decades.

How to get there

We partner with Plaid, a third-party software that enables thousands of apps worldwide to securely link people to their own bank accounts.

  • Plaid has the ability to sync with thousands of banks, credit lines, and loan accounts. See if yours is on their list.

  • Plaid is safe. Learn more about their safety protocols here.

  • Because the ability for ScrubMoney to offer Plaid costs us monthly for every account we sync up, we charge a monthly subscription for this upgrade to keep this service sustainable. (If you want your institution to cover this fee, send them this link and ask them to talk with us.)

  • If you decide to start a free trial, here's what you'll see:

A quick description of what Plaid is and does.

Here, you select whatever bank account you want to sync with ScrubMoney first, then log in with your normal credentials.

Select each account you want represented in your financial tracking in ScrubMoney, and then you’re synched!

If you’re upgrading for yourself and not with the support of your institution, then, after syncing with Plaid, you’ll set up payment and start your free trial.

Who's this for?

If your institution cares about your overall financial health and well-being, one way they can prove that to you is by offering this upgrade as a benefit. You can tell your administrators about this ScrubMoney benefit by sending them to this link.

While we do prefer institutions to offer this as a benefit to you, we understand that ideals are just ideals. If your institution isn't providing ScrubMoney as a benefit yet, you can either regularly manually update the app with your stats or jumpstart your financial planning by upgrading. Once your institution offers to cover ScrubMoney for you, we'll transfer the monthly subscription over to them.

Overall mission: there are plenty of apps and gadgets to help us sort through the short-term financial questions, but physicians face a unique challenge in planning out and becoming stable with our finances. We decided to partner with Plaid on this feature to automate some of that planning process so you can get back to living your life and caring for your patients.
